Spammed

With the advancement in technology, many things have certainly changed, some people still blog, others now facebook…others flixster…and another lot keeps sending me invites to what’s this, Hi5. My main worry is the mail senders who keep forwarding those mails that have trotted through hundreds of computers and finally getting to me.

Spam has taken another twist, about four years ago, when you talked about spam. Most likely it was mail trying to sell to you things like “Enhance the size of your member” ads. Or Last longer, feel longer with Viagra or enticing you to the lucky draw that you didn’t enter but are now a sudden winner of US $20,000.

Things have changed drastically, I still receive that king of spam but even more scary is the spam in the form of chain emails…I saw this and I liked it, I think you will like it to…Every new day your inbox is showing more than 1000 new mails, of course the times have come and gone…so these days I don’t rush with anticipation because I know I am going to delete half of the mail in there.

The modern workplace has people who generate office spam. Its in-between mail, supposed to ease the nerves…waste a little of the time in your tight work schedule. So that in between that email your boss wrote to you at 3am from his blackberry demanding you submit a report he wants ready by next day, are hundreds of mails begging to make you smile or burst into laugher.

They are tempting and they certainly change the atmosphere…to one where you burst out laughing alone in a room full of serious chaps typing away at their machines…to excitedly forwarding the mail to everyone in your mailing list excluding your boss. On the brave days, you actually throw a spam in the direction of the boss just to test if he is made of rock and cannot even chuckle.

So if you went to the bank and the cashier was delaying serving you, most likely a pop up has come to the lower screen reading, NEW MAIL: “Happiness can not be a matter for heaven alone” and the cashier is lost in finding out the source of happiness OR perhaps another one has come in describing the characteristics of bank customers and the cashier has to observe everyone walking in and match them to the stereotype.

Spam is liked, adored, read, and forwarded to all kinds of people. It’s another way of saying HI; people acquired email addresses just to receive spam. One can even say its one the many factors that led to the growth of internet awareness among others…like some of those mentioned in the beginning of this article…it has a cult following…next to those Spanish telenovellas..

There has now emerged another type of spam…it threatens, cajoles, evokes all kinds of emotion, uncertainty, sympathy with a kind of disclaimer…this is religious spam.

God loves you stuff…always ending with a stern note “…Send this to 15 special people and you will see a miracle today…if you don’t I also don’t know what will happen…But pliz try and send it. You don’t want to miss out on the blessing…”

With the recent excitable promotions on all the telephone networks, SMS is free or subsidized. It means that spam is now everywhere considering the telephone once owned that poster. “….God has seen you struggling (with something). God says it’s over. A blessing is coming your way if you believe in God send this to 10 people. Please don’t ignore this, you are being tested. For it says in the bible, deny me in front of every one, I will deny you in front of my father…”

97% won’t pass this test. Are you part of the 3% that will pass? Ablessing is coming your way. Don’t break the chain…”

Okay you know by now that I am not part of the 3%.
